General GMAT Questions
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer adaptive test that assesses analytical writing, integrated reasoning, quantitative, and verbal skills. It's primarily used for admission to graduate management programs, such as MBA programs.
The GMAT is 3 hours and 7 minutes long, consisting of four sections:
- Analytical Writing Assessment: 30 minutes
- Integrated Reasoning: 30 minutes
- Quantitative Reasoning: 62 minutes
- Verbal Reasoning: 65 minutes
As of 2024, the GMAT costs $275 globally. However, prices may vary slightly in different regions. Always check the official GMAC website for the most up-to-date pricing information.

GMAT Preparation
The preparation time varies depending on your starting point and target score. On average, most test-takers spend 2-3 months studying for the GMAT, dedicating 10-15 hours per week.
We recommend a combination of official GMAC materials, reputable third-party resources (like GMATOrb), and practice tests. Use our [Resource Sharing](#) section to find community-recommended materials.
We recommend taking at least 4-6 full-length practice tests during your preparation. Space them out to track your progress and familiarize yourself with the test format and timing.

GMAT Scoring
A "good" score depends on the programs you're targeting. Generally:
- 650+ is competitive for many MBA programs
- 700+ is considered excellent and competitive for top-tier programs
- 730+ puts you in the 96th percentile or higher
The GMAT Total Score ranges from 200 to 800 and is based on your performance in the Quantitative and Verbal sections. The Integrated Reasoning (1-8 scale) and Analytical Writing Assessment (0-6 scale) are scored separately.
GMAT scores are valid for 5 years from the test date.
